The Formalist Quartet is an ensemble dedicated to the performance of adventurous repertoire focusing on contremporary pieces and world premieres, as well as exploring a diverse spectrum of early music and the standard repertoire. Since their establishment in 2006, the quartet has become a leading voice for new music in Southern California with appearances at San Diego New Music's soundON Festival of Modern Music, REDCAT at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and Villa Aurora. They have appeared at the Reykjavic Arts Festival in Iceland, and in venues across the United States.

Also featured are works by Salvatore Sciarrino, Sofia Gubaidulina, Judd Greenstein, Frederic Rzewski, Andrew McIntosh, Nicolas Tzortzis, Franklin Cox, Mark Applebaum, Luigi Nono, and more.
