Christopher Adler, piano

Christopher Adler is a composer, performer and improviser living in San Diego, California. His compositions encompass cross-culturally hybrid forms drawn from contemporary concert music and traditional musics of Thailand and Laos, the application of mathematics to composition, and the integration of improvisation into structured composition. He is the pianist and composer-in-residence for the ensemble NOISE, the composer-in-residence of the nief-norf Summer Festival, and he co-organized the soundON Festival of Modern Music for six years. He has recorded for Tzadik, Innova, Centaur, and Vienna Modern Masters, and is currently Professor of Music at the University of San Diego. www.christopheradler.com

Rachel Beetz, flute

Flutist Rachel Beetz is an active performer of contemporary music. She has performed music of the last century across America and Italy. Rachel holds a Bachelor of Music Performance from Indiana University where she studied with Kathryn Lukas, a Certificate from University of Maryland-Baltimore County with Lisa Cella, and a Master of Arts from University of California-San Diego with John Fonville. Currently, you will find her giving many performances in San Diego where she is continuing her artistic exploration at the University.

Andrew Elstrob, trumpet

Originally from Monterey, CA, trumpet player Andrew Elstob enjoys a career that encompasses a wide variety of musical styles and ensembles, from symphony orchestras to big bands, musicals to chamber music. Andrew has played for most of the current touring Broadway productions, including “Mary Poppins,” “Camelot,” “High School Musical,” and “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” and alongside such notable artists as Don Rickles, Wynonna Judd, John Lithgow, Patty LuPone and Lou Diamond Philips. Additionally, he has performed with many of the top music ensembles in Southern California, including the San Diego Symphony, Orchestra Nova, Westwind Brass and Presidio Brass.  He has toured throughout North and South America, including a tour of Mexico with the Orchestra de Baja and internationally celebrated tenor, Luciano Pavarotti. Andrew grew up in the Bay Area near San Francisco, CA and moved to San Diego to attend the California State University, where he earned his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees with an emphasis in jazz studies. In his free time, Andrew enjoys being with his wife and two dogs while cheering on his San Francisco Giants and 49ers.

Jory Herman, contrabass

Jory Herman is a member of the San Diego Symphony Double Bass Section. A native of Houston, he received both a Bachelors and Masters of Music Performance in an Honors 5-year degree program at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. After this, he spent three seasons with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. In 2007, he received second place in the International Society of Bassists Competition and Honorable Mention for his performance of the required modern composition. His primary teachers have been Paul Ellison, Dennis Whittaker, and Andrew Moritz. Jory Herman has participated in numerous orchestra festivals including Tanglewood Music Festival, Colorado Music Festival, Spoleto USA Music Festival, Pacific Music Festival and the Youth Orchestra of the Americas. In the summer of 2010, Mr. Herman was selected for the International Artist's Residency at Recollets in Paris to study videography and experiment with works for Double Bass and Multimedia. www.joryherman.com

Wesley Precourt, violin

After graduating from the Thornton School of Music at USC with a Bachelor in Violin Performance, he continued his studies at the newly formed Colburn Conservatory and in 2009 he was awarded an Artist Diploma in violin performance. Wesley has appeared as a featured soloist with the Orange Coast College, Chandler, La Jolla, Desert, Torrance, and Grossmont Symphonies as well as the Long Beach Chorale.  As a recitalist he has been presented by the Musical Merit Foundation, the First United Methodist Churches of San Diego and Escondido, the Music at Founder’s Hall series, and the La Jolla Athenaeum’s series. Wesley was also a solo performer at the dedication ceremony of the Heifetz Studio at the Colburn School of Performing Arts. He has held a residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts, attended the ENCORE School for Strings, and participated in a joint Paris Conservatory – USC concert tour in France. As part of the Colburn Chamber Music Society he has had the pleasure of working with artists such as Paul Neubauer, Ida Levin, Ronald Leonard, and Richard Beene. Wesley is a frequent performer with the San Diego Symphony and he has performed as a part of the Aspen Festival Orchestra, the Riverside Philharmonic; has acted as Concertmaster for the Glendale Philharmonic and the Colburn Orchestra; and has acted in a Principal role for the California Chamber Orchestra. He can be heard on the albums of Taylor Swift, Robbie Williams, Dr. Dre, Belle and Sebastian, Jenny Lewis, Rod Stewart, The Jonas Brothers, Head Automatica, and Snow Patrol, and he has had the honor of performing on the soundtracks of many films such as Cantagion, Fast Five, Source Code, Rango, The Rite, and Horrible Bosses. On stage he has appeared with many bands and solo artists including Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, No Doubt, Duffy, and Dave Stewart. Wesley is the winner of numerous awards at international and national competitions, including the prestigious Spotlight Awards of Los Angeles, the NFAA ARTS award, the Kingsville International Competitions, the ASTA National Competition, and the Musical Merit Foundation of Greater San Diego. Wesley received degrees from USC and the Colburn School. He performs on a violin by Leandro Bisiach Sr., dated 1919.

Sarah Skuster, oboe

Sarah Skuster is the principal oboist of the San Diego Symphony. She has also held the positions of interim second oboe in the Dallas Symphony, (2006-2008), and second oboe in the Akron Symphony, (2004-2006). Ms. Skuster has performed as guest principal oboist with the Indianapolis Symphony and the New Jersey Symphony, and as a substitute with Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. She spent the past year working toward a master of music degree at the Mannes College of Music as a student of Elaine Douvas. Ms. Skuster earned a bachelor of music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music as a student of John Mack and is a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy where she studied with Dan Stolper. Ms. Skuster has been awarded fellowships to the Tanglewood Music Center (2005, 2006) and attended the Aspen Music Festival (2003, 2004). In the summer of 2006, she received the Ralph Gomberg Award, bestowed upon the exceptional Tanglewood oboe fellow each summer. As a soloist, Ms. Skuster has performed the Vaughan Williams Oboe Concerto with the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra and J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2, and Concerto for Oboe and Violin with the Cleveland Bach Consort.

Ariana Warren, clarinet / bass clarinet

Ariana Warren grew up and began her musical career in Seattle, Washington. Mrs. Warren is currently a doctoral candidate in Contemporary Performance at the University of California, San Diego studying with Dr. Anthony Burr. She earned a bachelor of music and master of music degrees at the Peabody Conservatory under the tutelage of Edward Palanker, and a Certificate in American Contemporary Music from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County under the direction of Dr. E. Michael Richards. Mrs. Warren, an affiliated artist with San Diego New Music, is a founding member of Odd and Even, a music and dance improvisation collective, and the Devil May Care Duo, a new music commissioning percussion and clarinet duo.

Robert Zelickman, clarinet

Robert Zelickman, clarinetist, is a Lecturer of Music at UC San Diego where he has taught since 1983. In addition to teaching clarinet and performing contemporary music, Robert conducts the UCSD Wind Ensemble and lectures on Jewish Music. Besides his duties at the University, Robert can be seen in many other venues throughout the community. He was a member of Orchestra Nova San Diego for 23 years and has performed with the San Diego Symphony and the San Diego Opera. Robert is also well known throughout California as the co-director of the Second Avenue Klezmer Ensemble. Zelickman earned his BA at UCLA and a MFA at Cal Arts. He has studied with Hugo Raimondi, Michele Zukovsky and Ronald Rueben. Robert was Bass Clarinetist with the Mexico City Philharmonic (1978-1979) and the Vera Cruz Symphony (1980-1982).
